NBDS Gang of 13

The purpose of this webpage is to educate New Brunswickers on a how the New Brunswick Dental Society (NBDS) Board of Directors are purposely indifferent to the welfare of the public.

Behaviour of the NBDS Board of Directors

The entity that is responsible for providing for the welfare of members of the public is the NBDS Board of Directors.

How well is the NBDS Board of Directors providing for the welfare of the public?

A letter titled "New Brunswick Dental Society – Providing for the Welfare of Members of the Public" from a concerned citizen was sent to the NBDS Board of Directors on 27 December 2017.  The letter recommended that the NBDS undertake the following actions:
  • place the New Brunswick Dental Act of 1985 on the NBDS website;
  • place all NBDS By-Laws on the NBDS website;
  • modify the NBDS Complaints process to address the shortcomings described in this letter and publish the revised NBDS Complaints process on the NBDS website;
  • adopt Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) standards of practice/guidelines/practice advisories and publish them on the website;
  • develop definitions for “Straightforward” and “Complex” dental procedures and incorporate these definitions within NBDS standards of practice/guidelines/practice advisories which should be published on the website;
  • modify NBDS By-Law No. 17 Dental Assistants definition of “Direct supervision and control” to reflect the definition used by the RCDSO; and
  • develop one or more standardized dental consent forms to address the dental consent form shortcomings described in this letter; the dental consent form should be for the protection of both the patient and the dentist.

New Brunswick Dental Society Board of Directors effective 27 December 2017:
  • Chairman - Dr. Daniel Violette
  • President - Dr. Bob Hatheway
  • President Elect - Dr. Suzanne Drapeau-McNally
  • Vice-President - Dr. Joy Carmichael
  • Past President - Dr. Kirk Preston
  • Moncton Rep. - Dr. Kevin Ingham
  • Saint John Rep. - Dr. Joanah Campbell
  • Fredericton Rep. - Dr Matthew Moore
  • Upper Saint John Valley Rep. - Dr. Sebastien Dion
  • North Shore Rep. - Dr. Geraldine Breau
  • Assistants Rep. - Ms. Ronda Marr
  • Lay Representative - Ms. Andrea Stierle-MacNeill
  • Minister's Representative - Dr. Amber Andrews

On 3 January 2018, the President of the NBDS, Dr. Robert Hatheway, provided the following response to the letter dated 27 December 2017:

"We are in receipt of your letter dated December 27, 2017. I am writing to inform you that your comments are being taken under advisement.

Thank you for contacting the New Brunswick Dental Society."

It has been more than a year since the letter of 27 December 2017, the NBDS has done SFA.  Even the most simple request, the posting of NBDS By-Laws on the NBDS website has not been actioned. The most charitable assessment of the NBDS Board of Directors behaviour is to call it indifferent.  The definition of "Indifferent" is
having no particular interest or sympathy; unconcerned.
